What is the Ingress Protection Index (IPxx)
It is simply an index indicating the suitability of the appliance for use in various environments. IP classifies the degrees of protection of enclosures for electrical equipment against penetration of solid foreign objects and liquids. So if you have to mount an applique in the living room at home you can also use an IP00, while in the garden IP44 is required at least.
