Lighting Transformation for a Private Garden in Cusago: Design, Functionality, and Atmosphere

When light meets design, outdoor spaces are completely transformed.
In Cusago, near Milan, we collaborated on the renovation of an elegant private garden, designing and installing the lighting system in synergy with a landscape architect’s work on the greenery.
The result? A warm, scenic, and highly functional environment, organised into distinct functional “islands”, each enhanced with tailored lighting.

The Project

The starting point was a clear concept: to create a garden organised into dedicated zones, each with a specific purpose.

  • Relax Island: with loungers and an umbrella, perfect for reading or resting.

  • Dining Island: with a table and chairs for outdoor dinners or aperitifs.

  • Additional green areas and pathways connecting the spaces in a harmonious way.

Our role was to give each “island” the right lighting, combining aesthetics, visual comfort, and safety.

Aesthetic and Functional Choices

To maintain visual consistency with the architecture and existing colours, we selected:

  • Corten-finish bollards and wall lights, matching the warm tones of the property.

  • Grey recessed path lights, perfectly blending with the colour of the brick walkway to subtly guide the way.

  • Directional LED spotlights hidden within the greenery to highlight plants and flowerbeds with carefully aimed beams.

  • A coffee table with a rechargeable lamp, offering a design solution in harmony with the surrounding greenery

All lighting solutions are LED technology for maximum energy efficiency and long lifespan, and feature IP-rated weather protection to ensure durability outdoors.

Before and After

Before the project, the garden was tidy but underlit, with the pathways and greenery lacking sufficient lighting to be enjoyed in the evening.

After our intervention, the space has a completely new look:

  • The walkway is now an elegant illuminated path that welcomes guests.

  • Green areas are enriched by warm light that enhances shapes and colours.

  • The relaxation area stands out with a unique design piece: a rechargeable, cable-free luminous table, easy to move and perfect for creating atmosphere wherever needed.

  • The villa’s façade is illuminated by wall lights from the same series and in the same colour as the bollards, ensuring harmony in both style and lighting effect.
